Terms of Use

Last updated 11 October 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Keyston (“we”) about using Keyston. By creating an account or using the app you accept them. We’ve kept them as plain as we can.

1. Using Keyston

  • You need to be at least 13 to use Keyston, and at least 18 to use stakes.
  • Keep your sign-in email and devices secure. You’re responsible for what happens in your account.
  • Don’t misuse the service: no attacking or overloading it, reverse engineering it, or using it to break the law.

2. Your content

What you write in Keyston is yours. You give us permission to store, copy and process it only to run the app for you (for example, to back it up, sync it between your devices and, if you use them, to power writing help and the mentor chat). See the Privacy Policy.

3. Not medical or professional advice

Keyston helps you build habits. It is not medical, psychological, financial or legal advice, and the mentor is not a therapist. If you’re struggling or in crisis, contact a professional or your local emergency number.

4. Keyston Plus

Keyston Plus is an optional subscription sold through the App Store. Apple charges you, and Apple’s terms apply to the payment, renewal and refunds. It renews automatically until you cancel in your iPhone’s Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel an App Store subscription.

5. Stakes (putting money on a habit)

Stakes are optional. They let you back a habit with real money, because a small cost for missing makes it easier to show up. Please read this section carefully.

How it works

  • You choose a habit, an amount per missed day, and when it starts. You confirm and sign before anything is active, and you add a card through Stripe.
  • A day counts as missed when a scheduled day closes with nothing recorded (neither the full habit nor the tiny version) and it isn’t paused or skipped under the habit’s rules. You have until the day locks to record it late.
  • Your first miss on each stake is free: it is recorded and you are told, but you are not charged. Every later miss is charged.
  • The app always shows you what you owe before it is charged.

When you are charged

  • Missed-day amounts are collected together and charged to your card on the schedule shown in the app (for example, once a week), not the moment you miss.
  • Each charge is real money. It is not a deposit and it is not paid back when you succeed.
  • If a charge fails, we may try again. Stakes may be paused until a working card is added.

Stopping

  • You can stop or lower a stake at any time in the app. The change applies from the next day that hasn’t started yet; days already missed are still charged.
  • Pausing a habit (illness, travel, life events) suspends its stake for those days, within the limits shown in the app.
  • Deleting your account stops all stakes. Amounts already shown as owed before deletion may still be charged.

Mistakes and disputes

If you think a day was counted wrongly (for example, the app failed to save a check-in, or a charge is wrong), email support@keyston.app within 30 days of the charge. We’ll look at the record and refund any amount charged in error. We don’t refund stakes for days you genuinely missed. This doesn’t limit any rights you have under the law or with your card issuer.

Not gambling

Stakes are a commitment you make about your own behaviour, which is entirely in your control. There is no chance element, no prize and no winnings: you never receive money from stakes. Stakes are only for people aged 18 or over, and you must use your own card. Don’t stake money you can’t afford to lose.

6. Changes and availability

We may change or improve features. We’ll try to give notice of important changes. We work hard to keep Keyston running, but it may sometimes be unavailable; your habits stay on your phone either way.

7. Ending

You can stop using Keyston and delete your account at any time in the app. We may suspend accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these terms, and will tell you why where we can.

8. Liability

Keyston is provided “as is”. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the last 12 months or USD 50. Nothing here limits liability that can’t be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer.

9. Apple

If you got Keyston from the App Store: these terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support or maintenance, isn’t responsible for claims about the app, and is a third-party beneficiary of these terms with the right to enforce them. Apple’s standard licensed application end user licence agreement also applies.
